Temporary Signs

Temporary signs use the same shapes as their permanent equivalents, but swap white backgrounds for yellow. That colour change is the entire point — it tells you, at a glance, that the rule you’re looking at won’t be there next month. They almost always mean one thing: road works ahead, and the normal rules have been adjusted to keep workers and drivers safe through the site.

Temporary speed limits

The most common temporary sign you’ll actually encounter.

Temporary lane guidance

Directing you around the actual work zone.

Temporary parking

Parking arrangements specific to a work zone or event, not permanent bays.

One detail worth remembering for the test: a “de-restriction” sign — the same number but with a diagonal line through it — doesn’t mean the speed limit is now that number. It means the temporary limit has ended, and whatever the road’s normal limit was now applies again.

One category left — Restriction Plates

Small plates that narrow exactly when or to whom a sign applies.
